Think AWARE for your Panic and Anxiety Attacks

Do you experience panic and anxiety attacks?  Here are a few things that could help you and cure your of such a disorder.  First, remember the word AWARE.  ‘A’ stands for accept that you are having a panic or anxiety attack.  Denying that you have this unpleasant condition would only worsen the situation.  Not recognizing this disorder makes you unprepared for future attacks and would just make your condition more depressing and seem hopeless.  The next thing to keep in mind is ‘W’ for watch the attack as it happens.  This may be referred to as the balcony experience.  Try to see yourself and what happens to you by detaching yourself from the situation.  If you feel like an attack is coming, try to see yourself from another person’s point of view.  What are the fears that threaten you?  Are they real?  Can you avoid them?  By detaching yourself from what’s happening, you are given the chance to think more rationally and ask these questions that could help you.

 When the psychologist says that a person is anxious, the statement may be interpreted in either of two ways. It may mean that the individual is anxious at the moment, or it may mean that he is an anxious person. The two interpretations are quite different. The  former  refers  to  an  immediate  and  probably  ephemeral state, whereas the latter is a constant condition without a time limitation

PD is characterized by the occurrence of unexpected panic attacks, which are discrete periods of intense apprehension, terror, or feelings of impending doom. These attacks are distinguished from high levels of general anxiety by their sudden and unexpected onset and tendency to surge to a peak, usually within 10 minutes.

We live in a generation full of stress. The higher the stress level the more anxiety a person experiences. Stress can directly manifest as anxiety attacks. These attacks are similar to panic attacks. Both are driven by panic disorders caused by too much anxiety. The common symptoms of anxiety attacks are palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, rapid heart beat,dizziness, chest pain,feeling insane or dying and nausea.

Panic and anxiety attacks are unpleasant situations experienced by millions of individuals today.  In the United States alone, statistics show that about 40 million Americans age 18 years old and up are affected by a general anxiety disorder.  A third of the annual health bill of the country is allotted to anxiety disorder patients.  In addition to this, patients with such a condition are 5 times more likely to seek medical treatment and consultation from physicians than those without the disorder.  Such attacks affect about six million people.  It costs about 23 billion dollars per annum to help relieve the symptoms of people with panic and anxiety attacks.

If  individuals conclude that their present abilities compare unfavorably with what they think they should be, or what others think they should be, they will experience some degree of anxiety. The severity of anxious feelings depends on how badly individuals expect they will do in a situation, how much control they will have in a particular event, and how critically they will be judged afterward.

Anxiety is differentiated from panic or fear in that anxiety is a chronic state of arousal, whereas fear and panic are acute states. The presence of anxiety as a feeling state is accompanied by one or more visceral reactions, usually of a cardiovascular or gastrointestinal nature.
